TEAM PROFILE AMATEUR Fat Lady's Charms They are playing in the ranks of the
Amateur B category in the Millennium circuit and they haven't
made it to the podium yet, but everybody knows them, everybody
talks about them and everybody likes them.
They are a little bit like the European version of the US based
Femme Fatales and they are the first all-female team taking
part in Europe's premier tournament series. There are a lot
of similar versions of their team name, but the only correct
and officially sanctioned spelling is Fat Lady's Charms. Fat
Lady was the name of a local Norwegian paintball team at the
site in the Oslo area, there the founding members Kate, Lene
and Heidi used to play. One day the girls decided to start their
own side, but kept the bond to Fat Lady in their team name.
Asking "Why should only the guys have all the fun" they gathered
some more girl players from Scandinavian countries Norway, Sweden
and Denmark and so today they are in their second year as a
7-man team.
Last year, they debuted in Toulouse and even reached the semifinals
in Stockholm, not too bad for starters. They trained a lot during
the winter and got coaching by some Swedish pro players, so
they improved a lot in a very short amount of time. It is not
to easy for them to come together for training sessions, as
they live in three different countries. They try to get practice
locally once per week and gather for team training once per
month.
Of course they attract a lot of media interest and have the
attention of many male ballers, so it was rather easy for them
to pick up some potent sponsors, including very well known names
in the scene. Currently they are associated with Bad Ass Sports,
Sweden, shooting WDP Angels with Severe paint loaded from Extreme
Rage Packs and Pods.
The Fat Lady's Charms are well respected among their fellow
players and this not only for being the good looking girls they
are, but as serious athletes, who play always fair, as well.
They seem not to be bothered to much by the effects they cause
on the mainly testosterone driven male players, they keep always
professional and try to promote their sport as good as possible.
What are the plans for the future of our young ladies? "We will
continue playing, we try to improve even more and hope to advance
to the semifinals regularly. We have to learn to play more aggressively!",
so come and watch them play at the next Millennium Series event.
